Cinnamomum Zeylanicum, otherwise known as Ceylon cinnamon or true cinnamon, is the source of the Cinnamon Essential Oil extracted through steam distillation of the leaves and twigs of the tree. The lighter yellow-brown oil from the leaves is the preferred oil for aromatherapy, while the darker brown oil from the bark is not. This calming oil is said to have powerful antiseptic properties, and is useful for treating colds and bronchitis, nausea, vomiting, chills, flu, infections, rheumatism, arthritis, and helping to lift depression. Though the leaf oil should be avoided during pregnancy, the bark oil can be used when properly diluted with expert supervision.
