Amyris essential oil, known as West Indian Sandalwood oil for its sandalwood-like scent, is formed by distilling bark and branches of the Amyris balsamifera tree. This candle wood (as it's called locally due to its high oil content) is a budget-friendly alternative to sandalwood - and it's used to treat wounds, influenza, diarrhoea, cystitis, and other vaginal infections. When used in a vaporiser, you'll feel relief from anxiety, tension, insomnia, and even impotence; and it's great for relieving coughs, colds, and bronchitis. It's also a muscle relaxant and emollient said to be beneficial during meditation. Amyris balsamifera was unidentified until 1886,
